Hirschauer joins lawmakers nationwide in opposing the proposed weakening of Head Start program

On August 7th of 2026 the Administration of Children and Families (ACF) released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), Reducing Federal Burden for Head Start Programs (RIN 0970-AD30). Head Start is an essential high-quality early learning program that has been providing services to children and their families to promote school success and readiness for over 60 years. The proposed regulation would rob over 700,000 of our youth every year of critical opportunities not only for their futures but also the future of out country!

All kids deserve a strong start in life. As a former early childhood educator, and Vice-Chair of the House Child Care Accessibility & Early Childhood Education Committee, I know the value of quality standards and essential services for children and families in Head Start. That’s why I am proud to have joined 360+ lawmakers from around the country in strongly opposing Trump’s latest attacks on this critical early childhood development program.
